Hungry EducationPhilosophy: The world is changing. It is busier...faster. Lost in the hustle, food has largely become a pit stop rather than an experience. At Hungry, we recognize food as more than a snack or a meal. It is greater than what tastes good or what is a “healthy” choice. Food is a direct link to our emotions and memories. The stronger and more positive the memories are, the healthier the relationship to food will be. When a relationship is healthy, a child has the ingredients to be confident and adventurous. At Hungry, we see endless opportunities to strengthen this relationship. For younger children, creating tactile experiences enables curious minds to stretch beyond the dinner table and take control of their environment. For older children, using food as a tool in the classroom introduces a new and challenging point-of-view, allowing them to share cultures, solve math problems, explore science, and engage the imagination. For adults, storytelling and personal narratives provoke engaging conversation, creating a new perspective. Mission Statement: When we give food a larger role in daily life, we can nourish the mind, strengthen confidence, and make the intangible easier to digest. Hungry achieves this by creating a space where interaction and dialogue unfold amid play, storytelling, and learning. At Hungry, we believe healthy eating occurs naturally once a positive relationship with food is established. Definitions: Food Ready Kids are presented with opportunities to learn and given space to create their own lesson. Most importantly, they play an active and present role in their relationship with food. Food Education produces Food Ready kids, by building strong relationships, challenging everyday points-of-view, and redefining the idea of “healthy.”
